Meet mattie
She/Her
Hello! My name is Mattie, and I am a clinical social worker licensed to practice therapy in Tennesse, Ohio, and Virginia. While some of the things we cover may feel intense at times, we can approach things with a sense of balance, giving permission to experience all emotions without judgment. We can use humor and celebrate successes however big or small, while learning how to manage anxiety, identify sensory profiles, and process trauma.

My goal is to present my genuine self in sessions while still maintaining professional boundaries and keeping this about you. Whether you're feeling sensory overload, learning to deconstruct from adverse religious experiences, or you're ready to finally process childhood trauma and heal attachment wounds; my hope is to facilitate a therapeutic relationship that feels safe enough that you can do the work you came here to do.

Education/Training

I graduated from New Mexico Highlands University with a Bachelor of Social Work degree in 2010, and later a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Cincinnati in 2014. Being a clinical social worker inevitably informs my practice, whether it is incorporating a social justice framework or seeing you as an individual within many systems. I have worked as a therapist in both community mental health settings and group private practice. Apart from psychotherapy, I have worked as an Americorps volunteer, domestic violence case manager, HIV/AIDS medical social worker, legal advocate/case manager at a community center for Asian immigrants, and a dialysis social worker.

I have completed training in EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) which is used to treat trauma and adverse events. I have also attended trainings related to trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness based cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy skills, and dissociative disorders.
